Scuba Lessons For Ages 10 to 14

While persons as young as 10 can get scuba certified, there are special requirements and restrictions.

Potential new divers ages 10 or 11 must participate in a Try Scuba class before signing up for the Open Water Scuba course. This allows us to evaluate the student's maturity level and help the parent and child decide if they are ready for scuba diving. If, after the Try Scuba, our Instructor, the child's parent, and the child agree the child is ready for scuba, they can sign up for the Open Water course. If they sign up on the same day as the Try Scuba class for any future Open Water Scuba course, $20.00 of the Try Scuba fee will be applied to the Open Water course fee.

Restrictions for divers ages 10 to 14.

A diver younger than 15 will be certified as a Junior Open Water Diver and must dive under the direct supervision of a dive professional or with a certified adult in environments equivalent to their training and within the recommended depth limits. The "Junior" designation will expire at age 15. A new card without the "Junior" designation is free from SSI however other training agencies may charge a fee.
